Professional Office Administrative Assistant - POAA.AS

This program is designed to prepare students for careers as administrative professionals. The curriculum reflects the rapid changes taking place in offices today. The administrative professional uses sophisticated technologies for telecommunications, word processing, spreadsheets, database management, desktop publishing, and presentations. Today’s administrative professional is see as part of the management team and has administrative responsibility that may include planning, organizing, and directing certain activities and functions.

Upon the successful completion of requirements for this program, the degree of Associate in Science in Office Information Technologies will be awarded.

Professional Office Administrative Assistant Program Goals


  1. Demonstrate keyboarding speed and accuracy with a minimum touch keyboarding rate of 40 words per minute on a three-minute timed writing with 95% accuracy.
  2. Master the skills necessary to produce professional looking medical documents utilizing software application (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software).
  3. Meet the challenging role of the administrative professional by adapting to the technological changes in the global economy and the diverse workplace.
  4. Develop excellent customer service skills.
  5. Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  6. Conduct research from a variety of sources.
  7. Demonstrate computer literacy.
