GRPH-125 - Typography and Layout3 credits This course is a three-credit lecture and laboratory course designed to introduce the student to the basic elements of type design and page layout. The lectures cover the history, terminology, specification, and aesthetics of type both as text and design elements. The fundamentals of page layout will be covered as a focus on the effective visual presentation of type and images. In the laboratory, the student will produce a variety of typographic and page layout projects using current, professional page layout software. These projects will require the student to design effective visual solutions to communication problems, moving from concept development through the production of the completed design. An emphasis on clean functional design will be stressed.
