Liberal Arts Transfer - LTTR.AA

The Liberal Arts Transfer curriculum is designed to parallel the first two years of a four year institution’s liberal arts program. It is for students who intend to transfer to a senior college and work toward a bachelor’s degree in areas such as English, Journalism, Creative Writing, History, Mass Communication, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, and World Languages, to name a few. The minimum requirements for the degree are 62 semester hours (20 courses), a minimum cumulative quality point average of 2.0, including 6 credits of English Composition, 12 credits in the Humanities, 18 credits in the Social Sciences, and 11 credits in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Up to six credits may be earned through Cooperative Education.

Upon the successful completion of requirements for this program, the degree of Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts Transfer will be awarded.

Program Goals

The Liberal Arts Transfer program will produce graduates who:

  1. as graduates, transfer to senior institutions having completed the general education requirements of the senior institutions.
  2. as graduates, transfer to senior institutions as full Juniors.
  3. transfer courses as equivalents of prerequisites for junior and senior level courses in their majors at the senior institution.
  4. complete the bachelor’s degree at the same rate as native students.
  5. demonstrate the capacity for critical thinking, quantitative, reasoning, communication, and information and technological literacy.

  1. Foreign language recommended. Other Liberal Arts Electives include: Math, Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Fine Arts. For those students interested in secondary education, EDU-102  Introduction to Special Needs and EDU-101  Foundations of Education: Urban Perspectives may be taken.
  2. Humanities Electives include: Art, Music, Drama or Creative Writing. Two are needed for students planning to transfer to Westfield State University.Cultural Diversity Elective.
