MECH-295 - CMM Applications

3 credits

This course is a continuation of the Fundamentals of CMM Course based on the Mitutoyo CRYSTA-Apex S Series Coordinate Measuring Machines { CMMs) recently installed at STCC. The course begins with a review of the Mitutoyo’s GeoPak® Geometry Model and the CNC Management Module presented in the fundamentals course. Students will be introduced to the lv1itutoyo CAT IOOOPS Program that transfers models from CAD 30 programs. such as Solid Works, for CMM inspection. Most area manufacturers use solid models from customers to program CNC machining centers and also for programming their CMM machines. CMM inspectiOI\ reports from model based 3D tiles allow continuity and an audited path back to the original design. The CAT I OOOPS Program is capable of furnishing a printout of all the measurements and tolerances of the part being measured. These printouts can be archived or included in the certification report for the customer. CNC driven coordinate measuring machines are the most recent advance in manufacturing. Skills learned in this CMM applications course are in demand in local machine shops and the completion of this course will also provide designers with a hands-on understanding of GD&T which has become a priority for aerospace recruiters
