Massage Therapy - INHC.COC


Massage Therapy is a personal service used to promote health and wellness benefits to consumers. The major benefits of receiving massage therapy are stress reduction, and the prevention of stress-related disease, pain relief for management of orthopedic conditions, injury recovery, and enhancing the management of chronic disease. The Massage Therapy program, stresses learning in the art and science of massage therapy. Students gain knowledge of anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, and pathology as they relate to therapeutic massage. Graduates become proficient in Relaxation Massage, Rehabilitative Massage, Seated Massage, and other modalities. Students gain practical experience in assessment, treatment planning and record keeping working our public clinic. The program prepares students for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and for National Certification. Graduates work in private practice, spas, medical and chiropractic offices, with athletes and in geriatric care settings.

The program prepares students for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and for National Certification as Massage Therapists. Graduates work in private practice, day spas, medical and chiropractic offices, and in geriatric care settings.

Upon the successful completion of the program requirements, a Certificate of Completion in Massage Therapy will be awarded.

Admission requirements include completion of high school biology and algebra 2. BIOL-148 - Basics of Anatomy and Physiology  or its equivalent is a prerequisite to the program. Students must receive a minimum grade of B- (80%) or better in all department courses, noted with the prefix INHC (except INHC-301 - Muscle Structure and Function , which requires a C - (70%) to pass the course).

All accepted students must undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information or other check.

Massage Therapy Program Goals


  1. Knowledge of exemplary professional and ethical standards of practice in the field of massage therapy.
  2. Knowledge of the importance and methods of promoting the safety and health benefits of the applications of massage therapy.
  3. Training in the proper performance and use in treatment of current massage modalities used in the practice of clinical massage therapy.
  4. Knowledge of the indications, contraindications, applications and physiological effects of massage on the human body needed in current clinical practice.
  5. Development of reading, writing, and critical thinking skills that graduates need to demonstrate competency in the field, to continue their education and interpret and perform research in the field of massage therapy.
  6. Knowledge of the components of a wellness model of health and health care and their importance in the field of massage therapy.
