Civil Construction Management - CNST.AS

The Civil Engineering Technology degree option in Civil Construction Management combines construction related engineering education with business, marketing, and management to allow students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in construction. The construction field encompasses a wide range of technical areas and employment opportunities ranging from field personnel responsible for earthmoving and building projects to support personnel in supply industries, as well as management staff The field of construction accounts for a large portion of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product meaning that construction is one of the single largest business activities in the country, which can provide a wide variety of exciting and challenging opportunities for employment. Beyond the opportunities for employment, the construction management degree option provides a strong background for pursuit of a bachelors degree in construction management.

 

Upon successful completion of the requirements of the program, an Associate in Science in Civil Engineering Technology from STCC will be awarded.

Educational Program Objectives


The career and professional accomplishments that the program is preparing graduates to achieve are as follows:

  1. A sound understanding of engineering principles to support both successful careers and further education.
  2. Applied critical thinking and problem solving skills to technical and non-technical problems.
  3. Ability to communicate through verbal, written, and graphic means.
  4. Effective team membership skills.

Program Outcomes


Program outcomes are the specific skills, knowledge and behaviors that a student acquires while going through the curriculum. Upon graduation from the Civil Engineering Technology - Construction Management program, the student is expected to be able to demonstrate:

  1. an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools in civil engineering technology, including analysis of structural systems
  2. an ability to apply current knowledge of civil engineering technology and adapt to emerging applications of mathematics, science and construction,
  3. an ability to conduct, analyze and interpret laboratory and field tests and apply test results to improve processes, including performing field and laboratory tests on civil engineering materials and employing productivity software to analyze data,
  4. an ability to apply creativity in the design and construction of civil engineering systems, including the preparation of construction and engineering contract drawings and documents,
  5. an ability to function effectively on teams and apply modern survey methods for land measurement and construction layout,
  6. an ability to identify, analyze and solve technical problems, including performing material quantity and cost estimates for bidding,
  7. an ability to communicate effectively,
  8. a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in lifelong learning,
  9. an ability to understand professional, ethical and social responsibilities,
  10. a respect for diversity and a knowledge of contemporary professional, societal and global issues, and
  11. a commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
