Human Services/Social Work - HSSW.COC

The Human Services/Social Work Certificate of Completion prepares students with the skills they need  to enter the vast field of Human Services. Students will:  

  • become familiar with community resources and be able to make recommendations appropriate  for a client  
  • develop an understanding of the intersectionality of race, ethnicity, economics, neurodiversity, gender identity, and human sexuality and how these complexities relate to the society in which  the person lives  
  • apply the Social Work Code of Ethics to a wide variety of scenarios  
  • utilize best practices in intake, treatment, and counseling  
  • develop and lead group work in a wide variety of scenarios including but not limited to  rehabilitation treatment and at risk population support  
  • understand and assist the best practices in alcohol and substance abuse prevention and  treatment 
     

This certificate of completion can be completed in one year and will allow students to begin (or continue) working in the field. In addition, all credits earned in this certificate will transfer to the College’s Associate in Arts degree, which includes all of the coursework required in the MassTransfer A2B Pathway in Social Work. 

Upon the successful completion of requirements of this program, the Certificate of Completion in Human Services/Social Work will be awarded.
