The Graphic Communications and Photography Department offers a curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in printing, publishing, advertising, digital media, and photography. The program courses cover a cross section of digital media and imaging technologies, including traditional printing and print preparation techniques, and the latest digital advertising processes including studio based photography. They combine a strong theoretical foundation with hands-on laboratory experiences in practical application.

An Associate degree in Graphic Communications and Photography will provide the education necessary for program graduates to begin a successful career in the graphic communications and digital media industry, as well as in many of the advanced media platforms such as the internet and social media management. Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as other institutions offering programs in various communication technologies, accepts credits from Springfield Technical Community College’s Graphic Communication and Photography Program toward their advanced degree programs.

The Web and Advertising Design option prepares students for a career in digital media and advertising agency in management. Graduates are prepared for careers in package design, advertising design and a variety of creative and management positions in an advertising agency. Students develop proficiencies in designing and managing search engine marketing and social media marketing and social media campaigns using the latest professional techniques and software programs. Courses include package construction and design, agency management, social media and e-commerce promotion design, and training for certification as a Google media reseller.

The Minimum passing grade for an individual course in the program is C- (70%). The minimum average for graduation from the program is C (73%).

Upon the successful completion of the requirements for this program the degree of Associates in Science in Graphic Communication and Photography will be awarded.
