Telecommunications Technology - TCOM.AAS

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: School of Engineering Technologies and Math

The Telecommunications Technology program prepares students for work in the development, installation, maintenance, and operation of sophisticated computer networks and telecommunications systems.

Telecommunications Technology concentrates on the technology that delivers the information, in voice, data, video, or combinations of these, is telecommunications technology. Increased competition due to federal deregulation, security requirements, and recent developments in the areas of fiber optics, ATM, DSL, LAN/WAN technology, Cisco networking, wireless technology, and the security requirements have made telecommunications and network technicians highly sought after.

Graduates of this program would work in areas such as network administration, research, design, field service, and technical support for companies that deploy more complex networks, wide area networks, Internet service providers, cable providers, and companies using wireless communications.

Math, computer and technical skills all provide a base for career development that often leads to leadership and management positions in the broad field of engineering technology.

Graduates are often encouraged to pursue a bachelor’s degree upon completion of their associate’s degree. Students wishing to further their education in an engineering field should notify their STCC academic advisor early in their course of study so that arrangements can be made to facilitate the transfer process.

Telecommunications Technology is one of the four degree programs in the Electronics Systems Group. The other degree programs are Computer Systems Engineering Technology, Electronics Systems Engineering Technology (ESET), and Laser Electro-Optics Technology (LEOT). Additional information on the department can be found at http://cset.stcc.edu.

Students are encouraged to contact members of the department for course selection and career advising.

Minimum Grade Requirement: Students must receive a grade of “D” or better. A QPA of 2.0 must be achieved for graduation.

Upon the successful completion of requirements for this program, the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Telecommunications Technology will be awarded

Program Goals
