CSC-113 - Intro to Python Programming

3 credits
In this introductory Python course, students will explore the fundamentals of programming with a special emphasis on its practical applications in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Covering core concepts including variables, control flow, functions, data types, expressions, and algorithm design, learners will adopt a foundational approach to programming.  In addition, the beginnings of object-oriented programming and class creation are introduced. Students will gain proficiency in utilizing lists, searching, sorting, and developing algorithms. The course will familiarize students with industry-standard integrated development environments (IDEs), empowering them to create, read, and modify Python source code efficiently.  By the course’s conclusion, participants will possess the skills to leverage Python for problem-solving in scientific analysis, mathematical modeling, and computational tasks, providing them with a valuable toolkit for various STEM disciplines.

Prerequisite(s): MAT 064  (C- or better) or placement at college-level math
