MET-122 - CMM Applications2 credits This course is a continuation of the fundamentals of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). The course begins with a review of programming and setup for touch-probe CMMs. Students will start with blueprints and write CMM programs to inspect precision machined parts with increased complexity. An emphasis will be placed on best practices for fixturing parts, aligning coordinate systems, and inspecting precision features to ensure they are within blueprint tolerances. Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances will be discussed in detail. Students will learn to set up fixtures, write programs, and manually verify results with minimal instructor input. Work holding devices will be discussed with the goal of saving time and money by using different configurations. Standard probe configurations and stylus selection will be discussed. Advanced probe configurations will be used to combine inspection operations into one setup where applicable.
