Mechanical Engineering Technology Transfer - METT.ASThis transfer option for Mechanical Engineering Technology students is designed specifically for students who, upon graduation, wish to transfer to Northeastern University College of Professional Studies (CPS) to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Articulation agreements between the two schools ensure that graduates of STCC’s Mechanical Engineering Technology Transfer option can transfer 60 credits towards the 120 credits required by CPS. For convenience, CPS will offer evening courses on the STCC campus. State-of-the-art computer software is complemented with instruction in mathematics, science, and engineering analysis providing the graduate with a sound foundation for implementation of design and manufacturing solutions. Graduates of the MET program are prepared to assume a wide range of responsibilities in the precision manufacturing industry. The METT.AS degree also prepares the graduate to continue their education to a bachelor’s degree through Northeastern University’s College for Professional Studies. Today, more than ever, industry is challenged to produce cost-effective, high-quality products at ever-increasing production rates. In order to stay competitive, companies are developing computer-integrated manufacturing systems, implementing concurrent engineering, and certifying to ISO 9000, and are also competing for the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award. These companies demand highly trained and knowledgeable employees to successfully implement these critical design and manufacturing initiatives. The associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology will give the student a competitive advantage in entering the job market, and will enable industry professionals to obtain the necessary skills to advance within their organizations. The associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology provides the student with a unique combination of theoretical and practical knowledge of today’s design and manufacturing processes. Design engineering technicians must have a sound math and science foundation, possess a working knowledge of materials, and exhibit good communications skills. Featuring courses such as thermodynamics and materials, combined with a foundation in basic science; students are able to use CAD to create designs in three-dimensional space and perform the necessary design analysis required to ensure product function and reliability. Students then provide documentation according to current professional standards.
