CLLS-355 - Clinical Laboratory Instrumentation and Quality Control

2 credits
This course will provide a comprehensive overview of technology and instrumentation employed in today’s clinical laboratory. Technologic principles and applications used in the various clinical departments will be explored including: Hematology, Microbiology, Urinalysis, Immunology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunohematology and Central processing-Laboratory Information Systems. Troubleshooting of all types of instrumentation will be discussed. Students will gain exposure to current instrumentation through virtual laboratory experiences and field trips to area hospital. Principles and practices of quality control that are vital in the clinical laboratory will be investigated. Students will gain an understanding of the rules surrounding the quality process and the impact it plays in providing quality laboratory results.
